Barclaycard Business, one of Europe’s largest acquirers and processors of plastic card transactions and Ingenico, a world leader in providing secure transactional payment solutions, are working in a partnership that will see them deliver one of the first contactless payment solutions to the UK retail community.

The two companies are working together at the forefront of the rollout of the revolutionary contactless payment method. As part of the collaboration, Barclaycard Business retailers can select from a range of Ingenico Contactless payment products. These fast, secure payment solutions allow any Barclaycard Business retail customer to accept contactless payments for items of £10 or under. Retailers signing up to the new system will benefit from the unique features of the Ingenico 5100 with Saturn 6000.

The new technology will transform the way retailers can accept payments from customers using debit or credit cards. For retailers contactless will provide a range of benefits including reduced transaction times, reduced queue times at the checkout and increased footfall.

James McDonald, Head of Contactless payments, from Barclaycard Business welcomed the partnership; "As a leading provider of chip and PIN technology we have had a successful relationship with Ingenico for many years and it made perfect sense to benefit from their expertise and their range of contactless payment products. In doing so, Barclaycard Business and Ingenico can provide the best possible solution for the UK retail community.

"The rollout of contactless technology is an exciting time for the retail industry. We expect it to deliver significant benefits for the retail community, with shorter queuing times and increased sales. By working together, Barclaycard Business and Ingenico will set the benchmark for contactless payment solutions in the UK."

Nick Parsons, Managing Director from Ingenico Northern Europe added: "With over 93,000 retailer and business relationships, Barclaycard Business is now set to lead the market in contactless technology. Ingenico looks forward to working with them in achieving this goal which will enable Barclaycard Business retailers to accept payment for goods in a fast, secure and convenient way.

"Ingenico has invested significant resource in developingg a solution that will require minimal additional investment from retailers but which will now give them access to a new technology that will deliver enhanced revenue."

Since the rollout announcement both Barclaycard Business and Ingenico have been inundated with interest from retailers across the country. Both businesses hope to announce the first wave of retailers to sign up to contactless technology in the coming weeks.
