Hyland Software Inc., developer of the OnBase enterprise content management (ECM) software suite, announced that Universal Group, a $591 million written premiums insurance firm headquartered in Puerto Rico, has selected OnBase as its enterprise-wide content management solution.

Using the OnBase ECM solution, Universal will provide its employees instantaneous access to data, documents, records, reports and e-mail throughout its organization. With OnBase's out-of-the-box features, Universal will easily design business rules and workflows based on the specific needs to connect its employees.

"Hyland's reputation as an industry leader was a key factor in our decision to implement OnBase," said Luis Perez-Sanchez, Chief Administrative Officer of Universal. "With their deep understanding of insurance operations, Hyland is constantly expanding OnBase's range of features to further enhance the software's performance for insurers."

According to Santiago Escobar, Chief Information Officer, "We were also impressed with the Gartner report indicating that Hyland far exceeds the other ECM providers we considered. With a reputation as the world's leading technology research company, Gartner greatly influenced our decision to select Hyland, and our trust in their reports has been validated by our satisfaction with OnBase."

Universal is implementing OnBase after an intensive evaluation process of more than 15 vendors. Each vendor was evaluated based on analyst research, feature sets and capabilities including compliance, automation and quicker response times. Many ECM solutions require extensive customization, but OnBase's easy implementation will allow Universal to implement a low maintenance solution that automatically integrated with existing applications. Universal's deployment of the OnBase ECM system will be fully completed by the end of 2007.

"Before implementing the OnBase ECM solution, manual paper processes were taking a lot of time and resources away from Universal's employees," said Ruth Fisk, director of International Insurance Solutions for Hyland Software. "By automating their business processes and eliminating paper documents, OnBase allows Universal's employees to issue policies and handle claims much faster. For internatioational insurers with remote offices, the ability to electronically manage documents and prioritize workflows becomes particularly important. Ultimately, customer satisfaction levels improve as a result of quicker response times. At Hyland, we are committed to continuously enhancing our ECM solutions to address the specific needs of insurers both domestically and internationally."
