Bill consolidators gather utility bills, consolidate the billing/usage information, add valuable data analysis to assure bill accuracy, and send a consolidated report for payment. One of the nation's leaders in telecom-focused invoice and inventory management was capturing data from over 5 million telecom invoices annually by scanning the bill and manually entering the data into their system. Some data was being missed or incorrectly entered into the system during this time intensive process. Now EC Power receives the ANSI X12 811 transactions directly from the telephone companies as soon as the client is billed. They work closely with the telephone companies to electronically receive the invoices by installing communication software which in some cases involves using direct T1 line. Once EC Power receives the bills, they transform them into an XML format that the client can extract information from as well as display directly to their customers. The format in which the client receives their bills can be tailored to fit their needs.

Some of the benefits of this solution include: elimination of large-scale scanning and data entry, XML or other electronic version of the data that can easily be accessible for display, improved communications between the client and Telco, and cost savings by switching from VAN communication to FTP or NAESB.

"Each Telco formats their data a little differently, but EC Power still works to capture all information no matter which Telco is being used," states Judy Bailey, EC Power's Manager of Business Solutions. "Receiving all of the bills in the same electronic format is a huge benefit to the bill consolidator."
