CyberSource upgrades Geolocation risk management technology

CyberSource Corporation (Nasdaq: CYBS), a leading provider of electronic payment and risk management solutions, today announced a new level of sophistication to its Internet Protocol (IP) Geolocation capabilities.

IP Geolocation, the process of evaluating the risk of an eCommerce transaction based on the geography of the customer, has long been a component of the fraud score CyberSource passed to its customers. Now, merchants using CyberSource's Decision Manager service can actually view the customer's location-identified by country, state (province, county, etc.), and city-to help them better determine whether to ship or not ship orders. The enhanced service also detects the internet facility being used. DSL and Cable services are typically deemed less risky than anonymized ("masked") or satellite services.

This new CyberSource service gives merchants the ability to confirm additional attributes of an order automatically, without need for costly manual review. Should an order be set aside for review, the enhanced IP Geolocation data, along with other order screening information, is readily available to reviewers through the case management system included in Decision Manager.

"This is the next step in order evaluation," said Kirsten Fry-Sanchez, vice president, product management. "CyberSource customers have told us that in many instances, they need as much order specificity as possible to maximize their conversion rates and minimize their fraud. We believe we are upping the ante with these added capabilities and helping our customers optimize their revenue potential."
