Banco Real ABN Amro, a leading financial institution in Brazil, has quadrupled the capacity of its network with an optical solution from Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX: NT), helping ensure uninterrupted access to business-critical information in real-time.

The new 320-Gbps network will place Banco Real ABN Amro among the financial institutions with the highest site-to-site transmission rate providing the network speed and efficiency needed for applications that require high bandwidth, such as electronic transactions, voice and data applications. In addition, the Nortel Optical solution provides more reliable backup and redundancy.

"The Nortel Optical Metro 5200 solution is ideal for Banco Real ABN Amro to build a high-performance multiservice platform to link large servers at the bank's main data processing sites," said Inacio de Freitas, manager, Corporate Market, Nortel Brazil. "Nortel is committed to modernizing telecommunications infrastructures to help provide corporate customers with a competitive advantage. The optical platform is designed to be scaled to the company's needs, accommodating future user growth and new, advanced services."

Banco Real ABN Amro chose Nortel for its reliable solutions, expertise and global leadership in optical solutions.

Integrator First Tech is deploying the new network for Banco Real ABM Amro, as well as providing maintenance and integration services.
