EDB Business Partner sheds 140 jobs at business and finance division

Nordic IT services group EDB Business Partner is cutting 140 jobs from its business and finance division as part of its restructuring and downsizing programme.

As part of its downsizing programme, EDB will cut 105 jobs at the division's offices in Norway and Sweden. The firm will shed a further 35 jobs at its MaXware and Ster Polska subsidiaries, which have offices in the Benelux region and Poland. The vendor says the affected employees will be offered a severance package.

In a statement, EDB says its business and finance division "will no longer pursue its own operations outside the Nordic region". Instead, the division will adopt a "partner-based approach" outside the Nordic area.

EDB says the changes will result in a new product strategy with the emphasis on component-based development, and a new delivery model which is better adapted to customer needs.

Ole Urdahl, executive vice president for bank and finance, EDB, says: "We're now implementing more extensive changes in the way we organise our work than we've considered earlier. This means that we can achieve substantial efficiency gains while simultaneously strengthening our competitiveness and position in the market."

The group says a total provision of NOK 92 million is being made for one-off expenses relating to the restructuring. The group is making a provision of NOK 53 million to cover downsizing costs, NOK 12 million for expected losses in projects plus provisions of NOK 27 million in respect of premises made vacant.

EDB Business Partners closed down its consultancy business in June resulting in the loss of 150 jobs.
