Eurex signs first Australian participant

German derivates exchange Eurex has extended its worldwide network to Australia and signed Fortis Clearing Sydney as its first non-clearing member on the continent.

Announcing the move at a user meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland, Eurex indicated that further participants from Australia were in the connection process.

The announcement follows Eurex's recent recognition as an Exempt Futures Market and an Exempt Stock Market in Australia, giving the screen-based exchange operator the right to trade in equity options and futures.

Eurex currently claims over 10,000 traders operating worldwide from terminals in 18 countries on three continents, turning over some 3.2 million contracts daily.
