Banca Popolare di Novara migrates to IBM mainframe with CA

Banca Popolare di Novara has implemented Computer Associates e-business infrastructure and storage management solutions to speed migration to IBM's zSeries mainframe.

The Italian bank needed to upgrade its central mainframe to a more powerful IBM zSeries 64-bit host-based system. The new machine supports all of the bank's main service applications, which are accessed via CICS by more than 6000 workstations running Windows 95, NT and 2000 platforms.

BPN deployed Computer Associates' Unicenter CA-OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation and Unicenter Network and Systems Management Automation Point to provide systems operations automation, including efficient cross-platform management of both mainframe and distributed system events from a single console.

BPN is also using BrightStor CA-Allocate Dasd Space and Placement as a centralised management system for z/OS and OS/390 data set allocation that facilitates more efficient Dasd usage and automatically resolves space allocation issues.

Mark Humphreys, chief technology officer, Gruppo BPN, comments: "We are extremely pleased with CA's ability to provide cost-efficient and technically superior solutions that were quickly implemented and allowed our hardware conversion to proceed on schedule."
