The new service is being developed to help Norwich Union Your House and Home Plus customers understand and put into perspective the risks to their home and learn what they can do to minimise them.

The Home Doctor interactive site, accessed via the Norwich Union Web site, will enable customers to click onto different parts of a virtual house to obtain information and advice on maintaining and securing that particular part of the property. For example, in Spring, Home Doctor will focus on home maintenance and improvements, providing customers with advice and guidance on how to reduce the chances of mishaps and avoid appointing rogue tradesmen.

Jill Willis, household market development manager at Norwich Union, says: "We're taking a new approach to household insurance. Insurance protection is still a key part of what we are offering, but we...want to share knowledge with customers so that they understand the real risks their homes face."

Home Doctor information packs will initially be delivered to new customers and those moving house in the near future.
