FirstMerit introduces online investing

Ohio-based FirstMerit Corporation has launched a new online sharedealing facility for private investors, complementing the personal service available through its discount brokerage operation.

FirstMerit Investment Services account owners can now view their account status, trade stocks and mutual funds, review investment research, get quotes and review the status of orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via the bank's Web site.

Felice Larmer, CFP, president of FirstMerit Investment Services (FMIS), comments: "FirstMerit Online Investing is an enhancement to our discount brokerage operations, which have always emphasised personal service. We know the marketplace wants state-of-the-art self-management tools, yet doesn't want to give up the personal interaction with our financial consultants in the process."

FMIS currently has more than 35,000 investment clients.
