Former SAP executives join Deutsche Bank's new technology team

Deutsche Bank has hired two senior executives from SAP to help guide its global technology and innovation strategy.

Dilip Khandelwal will join as managing director and head of technology centres, based in Pune. Khandelwal will oversee the development of the bank‘s Technology Centres globally to create "one, consistent strategy".

He will also become head of technology, data and innovation for Asia Pacific and CIO for human resources, legal and communications.

With cloud deployment high on the German bank's agenda, Khandelwal will have a role to play in the German bank's cloud strategy having led large-scale transformation projects at SAP to accelerate customers to the cloud.

Khandelwal is joined by another former SAP colleague, Gil Perez, who takes on the role of managing director and head of strategy & innovation. Perez will oversee innovation strategy and technology innovation partnerships, working with third party organisations to drive the bank's digital ambitions.

Both men will report to Bernd Leukert, head of technology, data and innovation, who moved from SAP to join Deutsche Bank earlier this year. He was recruited with a mandate to build a central technology division that will oversee tech security, data and innovation functions.

The German lender's management have previously complained about "lousy" and complex IT systems. The new unit is designed to help simplify processes while enabling the bank to innovate.

“The opportunity to transform technology at a global company like Deutsche Bank is a unique challenge for talented and ambitious technologists," says Leukert "With Dilip and Gil we are gaining two outstanding technology leaders who will help bring our IT strategy to life. I know they will complement the expertise we are fortunate to have at Deutsche Bank and help position technology at the centre of the bank’s activities.”
