CPI unveils card made from recovered ocean-bound plastic

CPI Card Group is introducing a payments card, called Second Wave, with a core made from recovered ocean-bound plastic.

The firm says "one of the largest" US-based card-issuing financial institutions has signed on to offer customers the EMV, dual interface Second Wave card.

Scott Scheirman, CEO, CPI Card Group, says: "With Second Wave, we are drawing attention to the upcycling potential of plastic waste that is either in the ocean or imminently ocean-bound.

"We estimate that for every one million Second Wave payment cards produced, over one ton of plastic will be diverted from entering the world’s oceans, waterways and shorelines."

You're probably not the target demographic, these messages are aimed at young idealists, though even young & impressionable minds can see through the worst excesses of greenwash marketing.  I hope.
