Holvi to launch across Europe

Holvi, the BBVA-backed small business current account for entrepreneurs and small businesses, is planning to launch in Ireland, Italy, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, following 60% year-on-year growth from 2017 to 2018

Founded in Helsinki in 2011 the company currently serves 150,000 micro-businesses in Germany, Austria and Finland. With 40% customer growth in Germany over the past year, Holvi is opening an office in Berlin to meet growing customer demand and as a springboard for expansion across Western Europe.

Targeted at small businesses - from yoga teachers, to freelancers to consultants, gig-economy workers and small family-run businesses - Holvi's range of services include an integrated current account package, comprising bookkeeping, invoicing and auto-expensing tools.

In the three years since its acquisition by BBVA, the Holvi team has grown from ten people to around 100 staff.

Commenting on the company’s expansion plans, Holvi CEO, Antti-Jussi Suominen says: “2019 is set to be an exciting year for Holvi. Having become the leading business banking service for microentrepreneurs in our home market of Finland, and rapidly growing in Austria and Germany, we are setting our sights on the rest of Europe."
