Danske Bank backs Copenhagen fintech accelerator

Danske Bank has teamed up with fellow Danish FS player Nykredit to back a new Copenhagen fintech accelerator designed to attract global talent to the Nordic scene.

The banks are working with accelerator Accelerace and incubator Copenhagen FinTech on the project, which has secured Dkr1 million in funding for the next two-and-a-half years.

Half a dozen startups in areas such as payments, insurance and mobile banking have already been picked for the accelerator's first batch, with their programme kicking off this month, running until next June.

The firms are getting up to EUR60,000 in pre-seed funding, as well as one-on-one business training, mentorship, office space, resources from the likes of Microsoft, Amazon and Rackspace, and access to partners for PoCs.

Jon Schäffer, head, strategic partnerships, Danske Bank, says: "We want to help promote Copenhagen and Denmark as an area with high levels of fintech activity. The better the ecosystem, the better the banks will become."
