Starling rolls out Settle Up tool

Starling Bank has introduced a feature, called Settle Up, to make it easier for friends and family to request and receive payments from each other.

Within the Pay section of the Starling app, customers can now set up their own Settle Up page. Then, when they want to request money, they send the page's unique link over any messaging service.

If the person being asked for money is a Starling customer, they will be able to pay directly from the app into their friend's bank account with a couple of taps. Non-customers will be taken to a dedicated web page to pay using a debit card.

Users can also customise their page accordingly for a one-time use, for example, for when they want to request a specific amount from someone, adding a note.

Similar to rival challenger Monzo's Monzo.me, the feature lets fully verified customers receive up to £250 a day via a UK debit card. Support for Apple Pay and Google Pay will be added soon.

Really?   This is back to the - Pay your mate back the £20 he borrowed from you at the pub via your mobile phone thing.... a solution desperately seeking a problem..... Maybe asking for money via Apps between friends and family IS something that is going to take off... I dont think so.....  I think 20X more payments are sent than are requested...  If my kids need money I want to find out about it obliquely through a conversation on the phone and offer...  rather than suffer an impersonal app based 'ping'
