Mastercard opens developer gateway

Mastercard is opening up to developers through the launch of a single gateway to a host of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) covering payments, data, security and 'new and experimental' areas such as virtual reality.

Following in the footsteps of Visa, which opened up a developer platform earlier this year, Mastercard is vowing to make it easier for partners to connect to and integrate with its services.

Developers now have access to more than 25 APIs, including Masterpass and Mastercard Digital Enablement Services, in a more accessible format.

As well as payment APIs, users can access data services such as market insights, and security tools including fraud scoring. An experimental section includes APIs developed at the company's R&D labs and covers things such as bot integration and the Qkr! mobile payments platform.

"We see Mastercard Developers as empowering our customers, partners and their developers in their efforts to innovate and grow their own businesses," says Oran Cummins, SVP, APIs, Mastercard.

"The new platform will serve as a key way to integrate Mastercard technology and services into their digital solutions in an easy and cost-effective way. And, consumers will benefit from the simpler, faster and safer experiences driven by these efforts."

Still no Banknet, MDS or IPM in there I see...  Just as the Visa equivalent doesn't have BASEI, SMS or BASEII.
