First Data to create 300 jobs at new Irish R&D centre

US fintech giant First Data is building a research and development centre that will house up to 300 tech employees in the Irish town of Nenagh.

First Data is set to start work on renovating a 32,000 square foot site at a business centre in County Tipperary later this year ahead of occupancy in 2017.

"Highly skilled" staffers will work on areas including application/software development, application analysis, business analysis, technical project management, systems consulting, and enterprise architecture.

The centre, being supported by IDA Ireland, is First Data's third Irish location after two offices in Dublin, which house about 300 people between them.

Tom Higgins, chief administrative officer, first Data, says: "We are looking forward to expanding our presence in Ireland with this new facility in Nenagh, County Tipperary that will house some of our most advanced research work in payments technology."
