DBS opens digital-heavy staff learning centre

Singapore's DBS Bank has built a huge "learning centre", complete with simulation branch, to future-proof staffers for the digital age.

The 40,000 square foot site promises to equip bank employees with a "digital mindset" through 10,000 training sessions a year in areas such as scenario-based leadership.

As well as training rooms, the space houses a simulation bank branch, where employees can receive hands-on learning using digital tools for customer interaction.

The training will also align with the Singapore government's SkillsFuture drive, offering employees access to outside courses on things like social intelligence, computational thinking and new media literacy.

Peter Seah, chairman, DBS Bank, says: "We need to promote continuous learning in order to build a future-ready workforce and a strong talent pool that will help shape the future of DBS and the future of banking."

Earlier this year, DBS began the first stage of a digital cross-pollination initiative by launching a series of hackathons which paired inhouse employees with startups to jointly tackle business and societal challenges.
