The pilot is being conducted at the team's Target Field, where employees are scanning applicants' driver's licenses to fill in most of the details needed to apply for the Minnesota Twins Rewards MasterCard, issued by US Bank.

Using technology from Mitek, the information needed to populate the application is captured with a snap of a photo, after which the applicant can verify it and add a couple of extra details not on driver's licenses.

Dominic Venturo, chief innovation officer, US Bank Payment Services, says: "The technology improves an applicant's user experience by eliminating the need to type in much of the required information, helps increase data accuracy, and improves security over paper processes."

The Twins may be happy to work with MasterCard on their card but earlier this month it emerged that the team has joined a class action lawsuit against the firm and its rival Visa for "gouging" them every time a fan buys a ticket.
