Nokia Treasure Tag links phones and wallets

Wallets may soon be made obsolete by mobile phones, but in the meantime Nokia has developed an NFC-based tag that links the two essential bits of kit, ensuring users are never parted from either.

The Nokia Treasure Tag is a match box-sized device which users can attach to valuables such as wallets and keys. An accompanying app pairs the tag with the user's Nokia Lumia handset via NFC or Bluetooth.

When the phone and the tag are separated they beep to alert the user. If this fails, the app has a map which shows where the missing item was when the Bluetooth connection was lost.

Up to four different tags can be connected to a phone while the app lets users deactivate them if an item is deliberately left behind.

The tags cost $29.90 each and have battery lives of six months. Currently they work with Lumia handsets with the Black update but Nokia says that Android and iOS support is coming.
