Alliance and Leicester launches Web-based share dealing

Alliance & Leicester has launched an Internet-based share dealing service which it claims is suitable for both experienced and tyro private investors.

Divided into three sections - Share Dealing, Share Information and Share Portfolio - the service features online dealing using real-time quotes, an online stock switching facility and a portfolio valuation service.

The Share Information Service includes the latest share price quotes, market news and performance, directors’ dealing information and company details. Subscribers to the Portfolio service can keep tabs on all their share holdings, says the bank, regardless of how they are held. Novice investors can also use the service to test hypothetical share trading strategies, without actually investing any money.

Customers’ shares are held in a nominee account operated by Barclays Stockbrokers.

John Windeler, Alliance & Leicester’s executive chairman, says the service has been designed to suit all levels of experience, from the occasional trader to the more sophisticated portfolio manager.

"An increasing number of our customers choose to buy services from Alliance & Leicester through the Internet," he adds.
