Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) is using Grid technology from Platform Computing to speed up processing of credit risk calculations.
The bank is using the vendor's Platform Symphony software to extend its Grid environment to encompass all areas of credit risk management and Grid-enable applications used for calculations over a virtualised computing environment.
As part of this process, Platform Computing says it developed a seamless integration to SG CIB's existing risk management application from Algorithmics.
Platform says the bank has also been able to greatly reduce capital costs through eliminating SMP servers in exchange for low-cost, standards-based IBM Linux clusters.
Commenting on the Platform implementation, Martine Boullé, CIO, corporate and risk systems, SG CIB, says: "It is imperative that we maximize the performance and efficiency of our IT environment to get business-critical information to our clients faster."
Boullé adds: "Through a close working relationship with Platform Computing, we have extended our grid infrastructure to new lines of business, seamlessly migrating our existing risk management applications and reducing the overall capital costs of our IT hardware."
