The position marks Casey's first non-executive tenure since quitting the LSE in October after the collapse of the proposed merger with Deutsche Borse.

Kinetic's specialist software is used by FTSE, Standard & Poor's, Dow Jones, Reuters, ING Barings, Nyse, Toronto Stock Exchange and others to calculate market indices.

Casey is the second high-profile City figure to join Kinetic in recent months. In November, the company announced the appointment of former Cazenove partner Sir Michael Richardson as chairman and that it would be seeking a quotation on the London Stock Exchange.
