Schlumberger wins Streamline POS chip contract

Streamline Merchant Services, part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, has selected Schlumberger Test & Transactions to supply MagIC* 6000 smart card-ready POS terminals to UK retailers.

The POS infrastructure will be installed as part of the national roll out of new generation EMV (Europay, Mastercard, Visa)-compatible smart payment cards.

MagIC 6000 terminals are EMVCo Level 2 approved - among the first terminals worldwide to achieve this status boasts Schlumberger - and accept any EMV-compatible smart payment card, as well as traditional magnetic stripe cards. The terminals provide firewalls and secure application-download facilities. They also support multiple applications, from standard payment cards such as credit/debit and e-purse, to custom services such as loyalty and co-branding.

The deal is the second UK bank order for the vendor in the space of a week and follows its contract with Lloyds TSB to supply kit for a new PKI/smart card-enabled online banking service pilot scheme.
