Logica extends e-business contract with Polaris

Logica has announced a new five-year, £8 million extension to its existing applications management outsourcing contract with Polaris UK (www.polaris-uk.co.uk), the insurance standards and software group.

Polaris develops market standards and software for electronic trading of general insurance. Its ProductWriter software is used in brokers' offices, telephone call centres as well as on the Internet. The product is also being developed for digital TV and mobile phone applications.

The new contract, which will run through to 2005, will include the upgrading of Polaris products for increasing use in e-commerce applications. Logica will also work closely with Polaris management to further develop and implement its e-business strategy.

Steve Burnett, Logica's director of business processing and applications management comments: "There are new challenges facing the insurance sector and we believe that our expertise in applications management, software development and new e-channels will help to secure Polaris' leading position in the market."

Polaris is owned by insurers and intermediaries. Current clients include the AA, Egg Financial Services and Alliance & Leicester
