Google brings e-mail money transfer system to Europe

29 January 2015  |  16805 views  |  1 arrow on screen

Google is rolling out its e-mail-based money transfer system in the UK, almost two years after the feature was first released in the US.

To send money in Gmail, users hover over the attachment paperclip, click the £ icon to attach money to the message, enter the amount, and press send. Users can also request money in Gmail by clicking the £ icon to attach the request to a Gmail message.

Recipients can claim the cash by setting up a Google Wallet Balance and linking their debit card or bank account.

After that, the money can be kept in the Wallet Balance for later spending, for spending on Google Play, or transferred back to the nominated bank account.

The roll out is the first step towards bringing the full version of Google Wallet to the UK and the rest of Europe (where it can currently be used for Google Play payments but little much else), as the search engine giant looks to get a head start on Apple, which is due to launch its Apple Pay service on European iPhones later this year.

Just the begining in an evolving online and mobile payments world. Lots to come in 2015. A good mix for consumers to choose from and where all the eventual good/preffered solutions will coexist - horses for courses and all that.
