BNZ targets youth with online overhaul

New Zealand's BNZ has set its sights on young customers with an overhaul of its online banking service designed to make it more intuitive and customisable.

YouMoney lets customers open and close accounts with the click of a button, set savings goals which can be tracked at a glance by progress bars and drag and drop funds between their own accounts or to payees.

The service also features an advanced search function allowing customers to filter transactions by key words or amounts, and photo avatars "to make the view of exactly where your money is going more real".

BNZ says YouMoney ties in with its increased focus on 18 to 29 year olds. It costs $5 a month, although the fee is waived for eligible tertiary students, apprentices and graduates.

Andy Symons, director, retail, BNZ, says: "Young people told us they want their personal banking to be easy and intuitive - so that's what we've created. Most internet banking products are developed to complete a task and then people interact with the function. With YouMoney we led with the experience and then explored what the product that supported that experience would look like."
