One small step for man: ex-Goldman Sachs staffer plans first trade in space

Former Goldman Sachs trader and reality TV star Anton Kreil is planning an out-of-this-world PR stunt that will see him complete the first trade in space.

Kreil says he will be aboard Space Expedition Corporation's Xcor Lynx MKII shuttle when it takes off from Mohave in California or the Caribbean island of Curacao in 2014.

He will attempt to secure world records for the "first financial transaction in space' and 'highest recorded financial transaction' at 103 kilometres above sea level - officially in space.

Kreil told Square Mile Magazine that as a Brit in a US-built shuttle, he plans to carry out a Sterling-US dollar pair trade, adding: "I certainly can't commit to trading the Euro. With the way things are looking at the moment, it may not even be around by the time we go."

He's also looking for listed companies interested in cashing in on the stunt by sponsoring a share trade.

This isn't Kreil's first bid to reach for the stars; in 2009 he appeared in the BBC reality TV series Million Dollar Traders, managing a group of amateurs as they played the market with £1 million of hedge fund manager Lex van Dam's money.
