Banco Santander signs for Diebold ATMs

Banco Santander is upgrading its Spanish ATM network, replacing 670 machines with new units from American vendor Diebold.

The bank will install Diebold's Opteva models running on its Agilis software over the next few months. The vendor says its machines will enable deposit automation, advertising and other advanced banking transactions.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the pair, who are already working together in Mexico, Brazil and the United States.

Dave Wetzel, MD, Emea, Diebold, says: "Spain is a strategic market for Diebold, and we look forward to continue building and strengthening business relationships in this region."

Santander's Spanish rival, BBVA has recently begun a nation-wide roll-out of state-of-the-art, touch screen "ATMs of the future".
