E*Trade Japan is to use BEA Systems' WebLogic Server and WebLogic JRockit products to develop and support its Linux and Intel-based online securities trading system.
E*Trade deployed an IA server, Linux OS, and Red Hat Advanced Server in order to improve trading performance and response times. The BEA systems were implemented to speed up transaction processing.
As a result, E*Trade says transaction processing speeds have nearly doubled while hardware and maintenance costs were reduced by 20%.
Noriyoshi Kimura, general manager of system development at prime contractor Softbank Investment, says: "The new architecture has provided improved performance at a lower cost, and we have a proven, modern architecture in place that's cost effective as we further develop the trading system.
"BEA WebLogic Server and BEA WebLogic JRockit allowed the system to deliver high levels of the processing performance and stability. In combination with the Intel architecture, we were able to cut the cost of development and maintain cost efficiency."
