E*Trade deploys IBM on Linux for cross-sales

E*Trade Financial Corporation is using IBM's DB2 Universal Database software running on Linux to create a business intelligence system designed to support cross-sales to its 3.5 million customers worldwide.

E*Trade has installed IBM's DB2 Integrated Cluster Environment (ICE) software, a database cluster running Linux on IBM eServer xSeries. IBM's clusters allow firms to quickly add servers for additional power during periods of rapid business activity or growth.

The company expects its customer data repository, which is managed and analysed by the IBM system, to become an integral part of its CRM and cross selling activity.

Joshua Levine, chief technology and administrative officer, E*Trade Financial, says: "IBM's Linux database offering and its business intelligence products are a precise and cost effective way to enhance these (cross-selling) efforts."
