Nigel Wray, chairman of Saracens rugby club and well-known entrepreneur, has made a significant investment in online wealth management company Nutmeg.

Nigel joins Nutmeg with an impressive track record of investing in and developing successful organisations across a range of sectors, particularly the investment, property, fund, media and sport industries.

Nick Hungerford, CEO and co-founder of Nutmeg, revealed his delight at the agreement: "Nigel brings considerable experience of building, expanding and managing financial services businesses. He is one of the UK's most successful entrepreneurs and has vast experience across different global markets. His record as a leader and investor is second to none and his passion for the customer experience is completely aligned with mine and that of Nutmeg."

Well known for his association with Saracens, Nigel has also been instrumental in the success of many other organisations. He has held directorships and significant shareholdings in companies such as Domino's Pizza, Singer & Friedlander Group and Carlton Communications, and has been a non-executive shareholder director of People's Phone Company, Networkers, Skyepharma, Chorion and Urbium.

Nigel spoke of his pleasure at joining Nutmeg: "It's great to join the team of people already at Nutmeg. The company has enjoyed a lot of success and I am convinced that with the vision, passion and culture of Nutmeg, we will continue to grow the business in line with ambitious plans. Nutmeg is like no other investment company I have seen. They are 100% focused on the user and that means transparency, low charges, a fantastic customer experience and wonderful technology."

Commenting on Nutmeg's considerable growth and ambitious plans for the future, Nick concluded: "Our business has expanded tremendously over the last few years, and we all believe that excellent service for all and complete transparency can and should be synonymous with investment management. It's great that someone like Nigel has recognised the strategic potential of Nutmeg. Together, we look forward to developing our customer base and proving our worth to others as stewards of their hard-earned savings and investments."

The team of investors behind Nutmeg boast exceptional experience in the fields of wealth management, ecommerce and technology. They include seasoned venture capital investment group Pentech Ventures, renowned British economist John Kay and former President of T. Rowe Price International, R Todd Ruppert. Also on board are Klaus Hommels, a venture capitalist heavily involved in the development of Skype, Facebook and Zing, Swiss tech-entrepreneur Daniel Aegerter, and Tim Draper, who has been integral to the growth of Hotmail, Baidu and Overture, to name just a few.
