Barclays launches its new Scan and Send system today, allowing mortgage brokers to electronically submit documents and intended to speed up the mortgage application process.

This is part of Barclays ongoing approach to making improvements to service, systems and processes, enhancing the end-to-end process for brokers and their clients.

This new system, the result of listening to brokers' feedback, means that brokers are no longer reliant on a fax system and will make it easier and quicker for brokers to submit supporting documentation for all residential mortgage applications. The technology advancements will give brokers an electronic audit trail, and at the same time will make the documents easily retrievable for Barclays. It will give brokers the added confidence that documents are automatically and securely routed with the mortgage application directly to their named underwriter. They will simply scan all documents before logging into the new Barclays secure mail service and then email them to Barclays.

David Finlay, Managing Director for Intermediaries at Barclays said "Continuing to improve brokers' experience with Barclays is our top priority and having listened to their feedback we believe that our investment in the new Scan and Send technology will improve the quality of applications and make the application process even smoother for brokers and their clients. It will also make communication easier between brokers and their named, dedicated underwriters."

The new Scan and Send system will be rolled out to all registered brokers over the next five weeks, and brokers will receive all the information they need to use the new system via email. This is the latest service improvement from Barclays, following the introduction of named, dedicated underwriters, a new revamped intermediary website and a new affordability calculator already in 2012, with further changes planned over the coming months.
