When it comes to cloud computing SunGard is 'all in'.

Finextra recently sat down with Clare Porter, senior vice president of the Infinity unit and Scott Coffing, COO of SunGard's Corporations Business. The video includes excerpts of an interview with Porter and Coffing where they discuss the vendor's 'private cloud' and ecosystem offerings and what 'Software-as-a-service' really means.

SunGard is now positioning itself as a central communications hub between banks, corporations and other trading partners with the launch of a technology 'ecosystem' linking users of its AvantGard treasury management system. Coffing says that SunGard plans to partner with smaller technology firms, sort of like Apple's app store for the iPhone, in order to offer a range of new applications to members of the ecosystem.

SunGard's recently unveiled 'private cloud' service in the UK provides a platform for its Software-as-a-Service offerings. The new service will be delivered on a shared infrastructure operating across SunGard's network of UK technology centres, offering a fully managed enterprise IT infrastructure with an emphasis on resilience and security - both physical and virtual, says the vendor. Porter comments that any efficiencies and cost savings realised by cloud computing have to be viewed in context of long term goals.
