The single plastic market

Source: MasterCard

Transactional data from MasterCard reveals that cross-border spending has grown in value to EUR13.9bn in 2004, a 12% increase on the previous year, as savvy consumers increasingly use their cards to shop for the best deals across a virtual single market.

The Mastercard report charts the emergence of a new pan-European consumer and details how and where customers are using their plastic cards to cross European borders.

The study reveals two drivers for growth: a 22% uplift in cross-border debit and a massive 67% increase in cross-border online spending using the Web, phone and mail order.
