Investing: DIY or Trust Others?

DIY every time. No-one cares about my money as much as I do. I have my portfolio and I'll re-balance once to twice a year, based upon my circumstances (I'm getting more risk averse with age). Rebalancing takes a max of 1 hour. Can a robo-advisor or financial planner really assess my risk profile based upon a Yes/No questionnaire? I want my costs to be as cheap as possible financial planners want paid. Robo-advisors have a cost attached - someone had to create the s/w and then keep it updated. As for Nutmeg, when is a fee of between .45% and .75% low?! Percentage based outfits may be good for investors when their portfolio balance is in the low 5 figures, after that fixed-fee is most likely the best course of action. The reason for choosing a robo-advisor, that I can see, is convenience.

Thanks for this interesting and insightful article Henry. Indeed five years ago the cloud was not on the radar for many of the big financial institutions but given the expansion of the public cloud offer, the landscape is changing quickly. At Murex, during the last years we have been on our own cloud journey having finished the certification of the platform last year, we are now regularly introducing new cloud deployment options (https://www.murex.com/solutions/technology/cloud) We’re really excited to be working with our clients, and with cloud providers such as AWS, to help them to take full advantage of the benefits of the public cloud. We’re seeing a lot of interest from Murex clients who are looking to the public cloud and hybrid models to access - the scalability required to manage compute intensive workloads at an affordable TCO, especially when pricing complex derivatives or calculating regulatory risk outputs - unprecedented agility in the management of their IT infrastructure for the Murex platform - unrivaled flexibility to quickly ramp up additional development environments Thanks again for this post. Arnaud
