Do you bitcoin?

08 August 2014  |  2155 views  |  1

Satoshi Nakamoto's crypto-currency has been around for 5 years now. It is the most widely known of all the virtual currencies (such as litecoin, dogecoin, Gold Pressed Latinum), but still the uptake and merchants that use it seems thin on the ground.

There are fewer than 10 bitcoin ATMs around central London and only a few vendors (not including the odd trendy Hoxton pub) that accept it. Last week, I was discussing the issue with the CEO of a digital marketing agency who relayed the story of a conference he was at when out of 250 attendees only 2 had admitted to using bitcoins, one of whom was a technology researcher, the other worked on a bitcoin exchange).

Cryptocurrencies, despite George Osborne's endorsement, still have a long way to go to find main stream acceptance.

So, do you bitcoin? And why is that?

...and for the record, I have .27BTC in my wallet with nothing to spend it on. Maybe I'll grow a trendy beard and head over to Hoxton.
