In a speech given by the Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) Director of Markets on regulatory developments and the changing market structure, Mr Lawton provided details from the global, EU and a domestic capital markets perspective.
A global trend that he noted was the regulators' growing role in the data arena. In pressing for transparency, resolvability and standardisation, reporting and higher standards of risk management, regulators have found themselves leading discussions around
standards of data reporting and quality. He explained that aside from their current roles of developing reporting standards and in supervising trade repositories, regulators have a broader, growing role in the development of key reference data standards and
ensuring that these are appropriately defined.
