Greek Presidency to complete MiFID legislative changes

The Greek finance minister, has set out the priorities for Greece’s Presidency of the Council of Economic and Financial Affairs (ECOFIN) including:

  • Banking union - to finalise the framework for the Single Resolution Mechanism;
  • Reform of the financial sector supervisory framework – to:
    • complete work on legislative proposals to reform capital markets supervision (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) and Regulation);
    • promote discussions on the legislative proposal on benchmarking;
    • promote coordination, transparency and supervision of the private and occupational insurance sector;
    • work towards the adoption of a Payment Accounts Directive; and
  • Taxation - to continue to tackle tax fraud and tax evasion.
