London restaurant - Bangalore Express

I'm a huge fan of Indian food - be it generic brit-curry or the more authentic menu you'd find in places like Tooting or the marvellous Indian YMCA just off Warren Street.

So I don't take much encouragement to try somewhere new to me. So I found myself at Bangalore Express, just down from Waterloo station towards The Cut. The decor's quite striking - no flock wallpaper nonsense here. Most striking of all are the double-decker booths along one wall. Think a sort of bunk bed approach with the top tables accessed via a ladder. Not sure who thought that was a good idea but it looked fun.

We sat at a more conventional table at floor level. Service was rapid and friendly. The food's pretty good - I opted for a Thali which was filling and mostly interesting - consisting of a panner kebab, bread, rice and some interesting veg side dishes and pickles. The beer was sadly limited to the usual lagers but they also do wine.

It's pretty cheap and very cheerful. They also do discounts for students and staff at local universities. Worth a look. Their menu is online here.
