While it is admirable to use the money to support charities, would it not be more sensible to cap bonuses and require the banks to use the surplus profits to pay off the debts which the government is supporting? which we the taxpayers will ultimately have to do?

Using it for environmental issues is all very well but what has happened to the additional taxes raised for same purpose?
