Deep Dive: Is x402 Payments Protocol the Stripe for AI Agents?

Did not know you write on Finextra s well.

AP2 and x402 is perhaps the first time a proper bigtech company has gone near crypto (though they are not exactly crypto), this overall is a good sign. All we need is one good usecase where stablecoins show value.

Ultimately it is a chicken and egg problem. People wont own stablecoin wallets if they don't have any good obvious use for them. But if there are not enough people no one would build products for stablecoins. Remittances is one usecase where stablecoins have a role to play. So I am hopeful.

Finally we would also get a reason to rememeber 402 status code exists. It will likely end up being part of Gen X lingo where 402 means "pay up".

Re-Architecting Trust: The Future of Digital Finance in a Fractured World

Micropayments is another area where stablecoins might create new economic value. Nearly all payment mechanisms today have a floor on value of transaction because of the cost of transaction is very high. Some form of stablecoins can do transactions at rapid pace for very low costs. This could enable sub-cent payments. This alone might unlock ton of value for online commerce, IoT etc.
