Global Payments Inc. (NYSE:GPN), a leader in payment processing services, has enhanced its payment processing applications, Retail @dvantage - Verix SoftPay and Restaurant @dvantage - Verix SoftPay, by adding Internet check processing.

With this innovation, Global Payments now offers its merchant customers the ability to process checks, as well as credit, debit and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards, via the Internet from a single terminal.

Currently, the @dvantage - Verix SoftPay applications operate exclusively on the Omni 3740 and Omni 3750 payment systems from VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:PAY). In addition, Global has added support for MagTek's MICRImage Ethernet-enabled check scanner, providing the merchant with a total Internet protocol (IP) solution by eliminating the need to store and deposit paper checks.

"We believe IP is the wave of the future for point-of-sale transactions, and Global Payments is focused on offering products that meet our customers' needs," said Tony Abruzzio, Global Payments' Vice President of Merchant Product Solutions. "With these new offerings, Global is at the forefront by providing both card and check Internet connectivity processing on a single terminal."

Beyond the convenience of choosing IP or dial-up connectivity for processing transactions and image upload, both the Retail and Restaurant @dvantage - Verix SoftPay check applications support electronic check conversion for both ACH Check and POS Check services, as well as traditional guarantee and verification services. Using the Multi-merchant functionality, a single terminal can store up to 15 separate merchant IDs, and using the Multi-service feature, each merchant can activate up to three check services.
