American Stock Exchange moves in with Nyse and PHLX

The American Stock Exchange today announced the following plans for the resumption of trading on Monday, September 17, 2001.

The main building and trading floor of the American Stock Exchange at 86 Trinity Place suffered no structural damage, and our trading systems are fully operational and functional. However, the proximity of the American Stock Exchange building to the disaster site -- literally within a few hundred feet -- as well as the ongoing search and rescue efforts, combined with significant utility, access and safety issues and the need to complete building maintenance, will require the implementation of the following modified trading plan.

American Stock Exchange equities and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) will be traded on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange by American Stock Exchange specialists in temporary specialist posts made available by the NYSE.

American Stock Exchange specialists will be allowed into the NYSE with proper identification, and will conduct trading in the securities on American Stock Exchange's trading system and under American Stock Exchange rules, utilizing NYSE provided hardware.

American Stock Exchange registered options traders and specialists will be able to trade at the PHLX under the PHLX's rules. All American Stock Exchange registered options traders and specialists will be eligible to trade at the PHLX beginning Monday, September 17, 2001 and should arrive at the PHLX with proper identification, no later than 8:00 a.m. The PHLX is located at 1900 Market Street, at the corner of 19th and Market Streets.

"These are extraordinary times which require extraordinary measures," said Salvatore F. Sodano, American Stock Exchange chairman and chief executive officer. "I want to thank our colleagues at the New York Stock Exchange and the Philadelphia Stock Exchange as well as the many other exchanges for their offers and efforts to accommodate us."

The American Stock Exchange will continue to post information on its web site at www.amex.com as it becomes available, but no fewer than three times daily. Employees, members, customers, issuers and the public should review this Web site for pertinent updates and employees may call the American Stock Exchange hotline number at 1-800-483-9816 for up-to-date information.
