ING Direct Australia shifts systems to private cloud

The Australian arm of online bank ING Direct has migrated its entire infrastructure to a private cloud.

The bank shifted its systems during a 12 month project, called Zero Touch, which it hopes will simplify its production environment, providing new computing, network and storage infrastructure.

Simon Andrews, COO, ING Direct, says: "We see cloud technology as a real enabler. Completing the project has opened up space for us to innovate and create rather than simply operate and maintain the supporting infrastructure."

Adds Andrews: "For customers, this translates into improved service standards and an increased capacity for the bank to deliver product and service enhancements."

Is this the first stage of financial services organisations moving to a hybrid model of some commodity public cloud hosting, with core infrastructure on private cloud, leaving nothing remaining internally?
