Nationwide launches online advertising campaign

Nationwide has concluded two six-figure online advertising deals in an effort to raise its profile among UK Internet users.

The building society, which launched the UK's first retail Internet banking service in May 1997 and currently claims 600,000 online customers, is expanding its presence on Yahoo over the next 12 months as part of an integrated media deal with the Web portal.

The deal represents a six-figure investment by Nationwide, bringing together a range of media, including keyword banners and buttons, sponsorships, SMS alerts, and future WAP activity.

Along with a further six-figure deal with search engine Ask Jeeves UK, Nationwide expects to generate over 100 million advertising impressions over the next 12 months.

Steve Clode, Nationwide marketing director, says: "In the past few years, we have gained much experience in Internet advertising and have a clear view of the most cost-effective marketing activities...Overall these deals give Nationwide well targeted exposure on major sites regularly used by just under half of all Internet users in the UK."
