Seven more banks join Identrus

Seven more banks have signed up for the Identrus global trust system. They join the 35 existing financial institutions already committed to providing digital IDs and certification services to corporate customers under the bank-backed scheme.

The new Identrus Certificate Authorities are: AIB Group, Bank of Ireland, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Banco Sabadell, Banesto, Credit Lyonnais, and PNC Financial Services. Since Identrus went into live operation late last year the new members will be able to issue their corporate customers with secure, crypto-enabled IDs as soon as their internal security infrastructures are ready.

Identrus is aiming to establish a global community of certified trading partners capable of conducting secure electronic transactions over the public network.

In a related announcement, US-based GlobalCommerce and Entegrity Solutions have entered a strategic alliance to provide fast-track software and services solutions for financial institutions connecting to Identrus. Under the agreement, GlobalCommerce will offer the Identrus-certified Entegrity TSP (Trust Services Platform) with its CERTfi online identity-verification solution.
