Vendors demo in-branch card issuing platform

Chip consortium Multos has teamed with ACI Worldwide, Keycorp, MasterCard, Thales e-Security, Verisoft and Matica to develop a package that enables banks to issue EMV-compliant payment cards within branches.

Multos says customer convenience is driving demand for issuing cards in-branch, particularly as many customers prefer to collect bank cards rather than trust the postal service.

Using Multos' security features, a bank can deploy centralised smart card management and smart card data preparation alongside distributed issuance equipment, within an individual branch. Furthermore, banks that currently issue magnetic stripe cards in-branch can upgrade to EMV without changing the service response to customers, says the consortium.

The package integrates ACI's Smart Chip Manager card management and personalisation platform with Thales' hosted P3 Server EMV data preparation system - which performs all the cryptographic functions including the creation of a secure data payload containing MasterCard's SecureCode authentication and M/Chip 4 specifications. The specs are then loaded into the Keycorp/Infineon I4D 32k Multos chip and are decrypted ensuring that bank and cardholder information are protected during transmission to branch personaliation equipment. Branch-level deployment centres around Verisoft's personalisation software and Matica card embosser.

The product was demonstrated at the Cards Middle East exhibition in Dubai last week.
