Misys and Sun in bank messaging pact

Misys International Banking Systems has signed a porting and marketing deal with Sun Microsystems for the development of a global messaging hub for international banks.

The solution, which is expected to be available during the first quarter of 2003 from Misys, is intended to provide banks with a central point of control for their global messaging requirements. Based on thin-client technology, and leveraging Sun's Java technology browser-based user interface, the hub will be designed to handle multiple message types and support straight-through processing.

Banks porting to the platform will realise immediate efficiency gains and hardware and software savings by consolidating local and departmental messaging solutions at the global hub, says Roger Hedges, Midas product marketing manager. Longer-term, the system will support the migration to Web services technology and provide a platform for the development of additional modules, he says.

Donna Rubin, director, market development industries, Sun Microsystems, adds: "Misys' strength, combined with Sun's J2EE component-based software architecture, can provide customers with next-generation messaging and payment gateway to meet new market demands for STP."
