Discover lets users freeze their misplaced cards

Discover has introduced a security feature that lets people who misplace their credit cards freeze their accounts from their mobile phones.

The free Freeze It service acts like an on/off switch that can be used from a mobile app, online or over the phone to stop new purchases, cash advances and balance transfers on a card.

Cardholders receive alerts if transactions are declined while their accounts are frozen, and some activity - such as bills marked as recurring by the merchants, returns, rewards redemptions - continue to operate as normal.

Julie Loeger, SVP, marketing, discover, says: "We’re giving our cardmembers a fast and simple security feature that gives them more control over their accounts and more peace of mind if a card goes missing."

Australia's Commonwealth Bank implemented a similar feature in October last year.

I think I've been able to block my card from my phone for quite some time. Just call the card issues and ask them to block it.
